My First Pinterest Project!

Alright, people. I actually did it. My first Pinterest project. I am no longer a passive pinner!

I'll keep it real though, I had 2 of the 3 necessary items around our condo. Made things pretty easy. Here's the pin I labeled "DIY I could actually do":

After a quick run to West Elm for some (on sale) branchy-things, this is what I put together:

A Photography Challenge

I've mentioned once or twice that I'm working to improve my photography skills. I have to say that I've gotten a lot less camera shy, but I still have a lot of learning to do!

When Our Wired Lives posted about a photography challenge for the month of October, I knew it was a perfect opportunity. And it goes like this (sung like "Moves Like Jagger"):

I'll post a weekly round-up of my photos so that I don't overwhelm the blog with random photos. Care to join along? It starts tomorrow!

Our Rainy Anniversary Weekend

Mr. Fix-It and I celebrated our First Wedding Anniversary by taking a road trip up to Door County, Wisconsin. In my mind it would be a perfect fall-getaway type weekend where we could wander, explore, hike, and enjoy the start of fall. It was definitely all those things, despite the fact that it literally rained the entire weekend.

As a native New Englander, I was picturing Door County to be a bit like coastal Maine/New Hampshire. It did not disappoint! Plus, I got to challenge my notion that the only thing to see in the Midwest is Chicago. Don't expect me to venture to Iowa or Nebraska any time soon...baby steps.

Mr. Fix-It took the metra from downtown Chicago to the north suburbs (near my office) last Friday afternoon. I snuck out a little early so we could hit the road. We first made our way to Cedarburg.

Life's A Party

Just a few days after I wrapped up the baby shower in Providence, I was headed to Atlanta to celebrate bestie Allie's Bachelorette! (Almost a year ago I wrote about accepting Allie's beautiful invitation to be a matron of honor).

The weekend started with a lovely bridal shower hosted by her Mom and family friend "Aunt Moo".

One Year Later

They say the first year is the hardest...

But that can't possibly be true, because I'd live this last year a hundred more times.

Happy First Anniversary, my husband! I can't wait for what's next.

All Talk...

I have blogged about a number of projects that fall into the category of "to do" and not "look at what we did!". Have you noticed? If not, let me take a moment to air out my dirty laundry.

Back in April I talked about reupholstering a dining bench.

Guess what? Still not done.

Currently Loving

Last month's "Currently Loving" post got so much love, that I've decided to try to make it an ongoing series! Once a month I'll round up my favorite products/books/gadgets and put together a post. Here's what I'm loving at the moment:

1. Kate Spade Liberty Street Corinne: I had some store credit burning a hole in my pocket recently. I knew I wanted a purse, but just couldn't find exactly what I had in mind. Being a girl who recently discovered she doesn't own ONE BLACK PURSE, my goal was clear. After gobs of searching, I finally pulled the trigger.

2. Enzo Angiolini 'Saylem' Riding Boot: I actually purchased these guys last season. Now that it's cooling off in Chicago I can't wait to enjoy them again!

3. Fitbit: This little device recently got some buzz around the Weddingbee community. It's AWESOME. I track my steps, mileage, and sleep. I honestly feel more motivated to move when I wear it.

4. Wright's Silver Cream: I've had this stuff for a while. I recently made an effort to resurect some old pieces of silver jewelry, and they really needed a good shining. As I was polishing, I noticed that my wedding band and engagment ring looked suuuuuuper sparkly after getting my hands dirty with the cream too. Double win!

5. Trader Joe's Spa Gentle Facial Cleanser: I have sensitive skin, and whenever I switch facewash I break out. A while ago I fell in love with a similar cleanser by Jason, but I discovered the Trader Joe's version is almost identical and cheap to boot! $2.99!

6. Incase Combo Charger for iPod iPhone and iPad: I've been through 3 of these. I think they tend to burn out after a year or two, BUT I love this charger regardless. I keep it in my car to charge my phone to and from work, and then when I travel I use it as a wall charger.

7. Sigma 30mm 1.4 Lens: My favorite lens BY FAR. I bought it before our trip to Greece and used it for about 75% of our photos. Similarly, when I've traveled recently it's the only lens I've brought. LOVE.

What are you loving right now?

A Glimpse at Baby Miller's Shower

The Baby Shower was a huge success! Here's a sneak peek at our Camping Themed shower from this past weekend.

The day was gorgeous - 72 and sunny! Couldn't have asked for a more perfect early fall Sunday afternoon.

Boston BEES!

I'm sure most of you who are reading this blog are following me from my days of blogging as Mrs. Seashell on Weddingbee. I've been lucky enough to meet many of the Chicago Bees, but being a New England bride I also have been dying to meet the Boston Bees!

While I was home in Providence this past weekend, I was able to eeeek out a little time to grab some dinner, wine, and ice cream with some amazing ladies! (Special shout-out to Octo, who I got to know especially well while planning our September 25 weddings.)

The Fix-Its Bakery

Over a month ago I blogged about a Camping Theme Baby Shower we're throwing for my childhood best friend. I'm just tying up the loose ends here in Chicago before I head to Providence tonight! On the to do list? COOKIES.

The Fix-Its: Rewind {Guest Bath}

Our guest bathroom was completely uninspiring. When we moved into our condo we knew that it needed a fresh coat of paint and some quick updates...STAT. I wish I had thought about documenting the "before" better, but you get the idea...

That lovely shower curtain quickly became a drop-cloth for painting projects. At one point some paint bled through it to our floors and I decided the curtain was ugly and worthless. So much for that.

Happenings via iPhone Pics

Row One:
1. My new favorite way to start the day: Yoga & Starbucks. Life really couldn't be more perfect. Oh wait, I also request it be 75 and sunny while I enjoy my iced coffee on the Starbucks patio with the sun shining on my face.
2. I took our car, Marcus, for a REAL car wash recently. The Northshore Chicago luxury car dealerships have this competition that Lexus started years ago. They have these fancy showrooms with practically full restaurants, a movie theater (seriously), and cubicles with internet access - the works. Part of the deal is that they offer free car washes forever, and you can get lunch while you wait. It's all very fancy-pants, but the reality is, the quality of the car wash isn't the same as my favorite guys at Suds on Greenbay Road in Evanston. So, Marcus got the real star treatment, not just a drive-thru. (How did I just write 100 words about a car wash?)

Row Two:
3 & 4. About to enjoy some Chicago Pizza. Not that Lou Malnati's stuff Mr. Fix-It loves - Giordanos. My actual favorite is Carmen's. So yummy.

Row Three:
5. My office parking lot on any given day at 8:55am. Seriously, people? Wait, I showed up at 9:10 today. Guilty.
6. A photo text I sent my Mom yesterday. Any guesses what the bandanas are for?

Row Four:
7. Count the strollers. Really. I know babies can require a lot of gear but I spy a BOB, Bugaboo, Push Bike, and (look close!) a City Mini. I've also seen a Maclaren in the bunch. Oh, neighbors!
8. Go Patriots Bears! Still had to sport some New England Pride.
