I have been excited about this project for months! I have a feeling Mr. Fix-It doubted I'd actually make it happen, because sometimes I talk a big game.
After work on Friday, I wandered into a wooded area near my office. I had to scurry because there were No Trespassing signs about every 10 yards. What was I searching for? The Stick.
I shoved it in our car and drove for 2 hours (hideous traffic) with the stick by my side. I repeatedly told myself not to get into an accident because I kept imagining getting impaled by a giant stick and having to explain that one to ER doctors. Fortunately, I made it home just fine.
Next, I prepped the stick for paint. This involved Mr. Fix-It handing me a scraggly knife. I avoided eye-contact with our neighbors and talked in a pirate voice in my head. "Oh I'll getcha ye bark!"
After the stick was sufficiently de-barked, it was time to paint. I realized at some point that our "spray paint" was actually floral paint. I'm not entirely sure what floral paint is (or why someone would want gold sprayed flowers - ick!) but we had some in our storage closest. Why not, right?
I left it outside to dry for a bit, then decided it could hang by our back door. I'm officially convinced our neighbors think we're nuts. There's rarely a weekend where there's not some sort of loud banging or drilling coming from our unit. And now a gold stick in the hall? Jeesh.
The stick hung by our back door until the 3pm Bears game. I completed the Ornament Wreath while Mr. Fix-It did some (grad)school work. At game time, he installed some tiny loop hooks and wrapped fishing wire around the ends of the stick.
Actually, it was clear jewelry string from JoAnn Fabric and Crafts. Work with what you got!
I stood for about 15 minutes with a stick over my head (your arms get tired!) while Mr. Fix-It secured it by our front window. Then, it was time to string ornaments.
Are you ready to see our creation?
