The Fix-Its: Rewind {Our Entryway}

We're kicking off The Fix-Its: Rewind with our entryway! It's probably not an "entryway" when the front door opens up to the entire living space, but work with me here - we live in a large city in a small space. You've have to define areas somehow. I opt for fancy terms and imaginary ideas. "The place where we put our keys and mail" just doesn't sound as grand.

When we first moved into our condo and started thinking about the space, this was definitely one of the areas that took least priority. We lived with the set up below for about 9 months. In retrospect, I'm not sure how.

One weekend in April we decided it was time to spruce things up. We rearranged the "cubes" (which as a side note were totally awesome and it's a shame Crate & Barrel discontinued them) and hit up the Container Store for some floating shelves.

It was a significant improvement, but we weren't done. One of our goals was to eventually purchase a buffet or sideboard. At the time, we were pre-wedding and anticipating needing a space to store vases, candlesticks, bowls, platters, and other such wedding goodness. Lucky for us, after our wedding we had enough gift-money to Crate and Barrel to go shopping.

I first fell in love with this guy:

{Crate and Barrel, Cirque Three-Door Sideboard, $1399}

Very sadly, the dimensions didn't quite work in our space and the price was a bit higher than we were hoping. They have a two-door version as well, but that wouldn't have quite worked either. I'll keep it real: I whined about the whole thing a little.

Next we found our friend Triad.

{Crate and Barrel, Triad Large Sideboard, $699}

The measurements worked, the price was right, and the aesthetic felt like a good fit with our other furniture. We went for it.

Next, I think I'll pare things down and refresh the feel of the existing pieces. Maybe a topiary or two is in order?

  1. I've been wanting to do something with our "entryway" as well but we have nothing! I want to find an awesome sideboard like yours, but our space seems a bit smaller.

    I think it looks wonderful!

  2. Love the addition of the sideboard! We have a smaller entry way so right now it's just a 3 level side table and a mirror with hooks for our keys.

  3. I love it! I want something like that so much for all of our wedding china and crystal, but our apartment is small with a funky layout that won't work well with larger pieces. I'm hoping to find something a bit smaller that serves the same function!

  4. I am also completely obsessed with that sideboard with the hammered copper doors-- amazing! But the piece you chose is beautiful as well.

  5. If we had an entryway, I would like it to look similar to yours. :-)

    P.S. — I had the same C&B "cubes" in my first apartment out of college!
